A wonderful piece that explains central ideas of academia I’m a “raw” way. Some may look at this and think psssht why did I waste my time reading this, or, what have I gained from reading this? But it’s important to sometimes pause and look back on your current due process and see if it really is as beneficial or systemic as you may believe it to be. I think your writing here really helped me to take that pause and rethink my current systems and current work flow and so sincerely thank you.
This was a really helpful piece! I can’t wait to incorporate the reading schedule into my daily life. Your point on how we can’t read everything and that's fine and our only purpose is to worship Allah was a much needed reminder. I also wanted to point out in the first sentence you forgot to capitalize “His Highness” when referring to Allah, and advise you to rectify that.
Ah interesting to see you’re keen on Obsidian. I also saw that video and have been intrigued. Can I ask- when you started out with Obsidian did you just start from your new notes or did you go back and digitise/reformat old notes to make them fit into that system?
Ah, thank you Molly for reading. I am a firm believer in letting go of the past, haha, I am too lazy to include my past notes back onto obsidian. Digital Notes that I had on notion and else where, I copy paste them to obsidian when I find them, written notes, I let most of them go.
I hear you- I think that just dropped the barrier to entry for me a bit. The thought to typing everything out was a bit too much to contemplate but great to hear you're finding success with the system even without feeling like you need to digitise everything
i had this post saved in my to be read list and just came across it. couldn't come at a better time than now as i am stuck in a slump! jazakAllah khair forthe naseeha. i'll defo be trying them out in sha Allah. God bless !
Hi, I found your advice to be helpful. I’m in college pursuing a degree in science and wanting to become a better in research. Currently, the entire process of research is a weakness of mine and I want to change that. I ultimately believe that mastering the research skills I will help me find fulfillment in learning because it can open up new possibilities and worlds to me.
I really admire the connections made between Islam and knowledge here. Allahuma barik, a beautiful piece that I think everyone should read. I’m going to be coming back to this inshallah.
This was really helpful, i just started reading (they little hard reads) but I'll incorporate with some easy reads. I will be working on taking notes as i am lil lazy.
I just started my Substack journey in which I explore effective ways of freeing Palestine and sharing deep thoughts (among other things) follow for more 🫶🏻
جزاك الله خير

Jazakillah khair sister for the kind comment, yes, I will edit that. My father would agree with you about my hastiness.
